Day 12- how you found out about blogger and why you have one

How did I find out about blogger? Absolutely no idea, but it was a really long time ago. Probably back when I first started using the internet? Was blogger even in existence then? Was it still Blogspot? Is blogspot something different? Why am I so confused??? It was at least 5 years or so ago... Maybe it is before that owing to www.postsecret.com? Yeah. Maybe that...

Oh yeah, it's late and I just ate a humongous amount of toffee popcorn (holds tummy).

So I guess the answer to the first one is beyond my capabilities.

The second. I initially had one to post photos too but then I really got into flickr so that went out the window. Now I have one because occassionally I have something to say, something to keep track of, and more so as a replacement to a Live Journal that I feel I have outgrown somewhat. I still keep it, I just tend not to really post there anymore. I'm at a different stage in my life and this stage seems to demand a blog.

That said, I need to get some more friends on here. I have four. Hi guys, thanks for following!

Balloons and I

Birthday Balloons

I don't know about you, but I love balloons. I have a real thing for them. They are so simple, and yet have such an ability to make someone smile. They are for children, for teenagers, and for centenarians! Everyone loves them. (I am of course generalizing here; I'm sure someone doesn't like them!)

The ones I got for my birthday yesterday were fabulous! Pip got them for me and I love them. They were helium filled, which of course makes for great fun at the outset, but regular ones are cool too!

Parma Violet Balloons

I got purple, but red balloons also have a fantastic phototastic quality:

Floating Up High
Red Balloon Polaroid
See. Lovely.

Here then is my contribution to the joy balloons bring. A photospam of balloons.

Faded Times

Flying High
Sun Flare
Holding On

And of course, I took the opportunity to do my bench Monday with them! :D
Bench Monday with Balloons

Now the balloons are deflated, the helium lost, the birthday over. But the photos live on, and the smile still there.

Have a good night.

Day 11- another picture of you and your friends

Something a little different this time. These are a couple of photos from the mammoth box my mum gave me. I honestly cannot remember who this is, Katherine springs to mind but I am not sure why?!? Any ideas mum? I think it is the same person both times though...

It is weird that I lack photos of me and my friends. I tend to be behind the camera most of the time, and if I am honest, I have very few friends anyhow. I have never really been into big groups of friends, (except, perhaps in sixth form where the photos I have are not digitized and at home in the loft) and those that I do have, I don't seem to have that many (non-blurry, sitting around on the couch) photos of. Must try to rectify this. A whole chunk of my life missing from my photos. Odd, seeing how many I take of either myself, my feet (which in photos are a whole different entity! See my Bench Monday's) and of still objects. Maybe a goal for the next year is to capture more people. Don't really go anywhere to do that though.

Right, going to go and cook some dinner. I know I am overdue a birthday post but I just need to eat and collapse after working a retail bank holiday Monday. What a busy nightmare! Back at 7am tomorrow as well...

Day 10- songs you listen to when you are happy, sad, bored, hyped, mad

Today! 23! Yay! Go me!

Spent the day working today, did a 10-4 at work, back in at 10 tomorrow. All good for when the overtime dries up as I am sure it will shortly do! I got some kickass pressies which I will blog about later when I have some decent photos to go with the presents!

So, day 10 of blogging. Music. This is quite hard as I don't tend to do 'moods' but rather activities. So I will have a go.

Song for Ten
Dancing With Myself
The Beatles

Devendra Banhart
Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major by Yo Yo Ma
Sarah McLachlan: Full of Grace (or the whole Surfacing album)

The Saw Doctors: Songs From Sun Street
Rufus Wainwright

Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack
No Doubt

Alanis Morissette

So. I hope that gives you some insight into some of the stuff I listen to.
I'm off now to play with my helium balloons! :D 8 of them! Purple! :D

Day 9- something youre proud of in the past few days

Opps, skipped a day so playing catch up!

I'm not really proud of anything in the last few days... is that bad? I don't know. I've just been trying to get through the days and still be smiling by the end. I turned 23 today. Can I be proud of that fact???

Day 8- short term goals for this month and why

My short term goals for the next month are to work as much as humanely possible. For obvious reasons like money. In this, to ensure that I get at least 20 permanent hours.
Other goals include trying not to stress out over dissertation marks, no matter what they are; must try to remember nothing is the end of the world.

I think I have managed the first but not the second.

This months goals are rather boring I realise but other than trying to sort everything out so I can afford to live for the next however long I am not really up to much.

Maybe I should try out one of the Julia and Julia style missions with cooking a new recipe, maybe not everyday but once a week? And almost certainly not from Julia Child's cook book. I think that might be a little unaffordable...

Anyways, my folks are coming up today in lieu of working on my birthday, although now for only 4 hours. Gimme a yay. I can have a birthday morning in style. AKA, a lay in!

Will report back later.

Anyone actually read this mindless dribble that leaks from my brains?

EDIT: yeah, not 100% about those hours anymore. They keep screwing me around. Gonna have to start job hunting methinks. *sadface*

Day 7- a picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you

Good Morning!

Today's 30 days of blogging is a photo of something that has had the biggest impact on me.
For sure, many things have had an impact on me, especially university, but through everything my family have been there.

My Mum, who has always been my friend, and someone who I can turn to,  has been amazing. She is strong and a wonderful influence, teaching me to be who I want to be, no matter what. She also taught me to bake, cook and iron (of course, I don't really do this anymore, sorry mum!) Where would I be without her! Love you mum!

Dave has had an incredible impact on the direction my life took. Without his love and support I highly doubt I would be sitting here having a BA and having undertaken a MA. He dragged me through maths when I was struggling with it, he has gone through almost every essay I have written and encouraged me all the way. He has taught me where to put commas (mostly) and how to cook a roast. He has provided for me, he has put up with me, and he has been there for me. Love you Dave! Thank you for everything!

Alfie, what can I say. He takes the world by storm! 8(?) years old and a true boy with puppy dog snails and slugs and bugs and all sorts of icky boy things! Love you Alfie!

I don't get to see my family as much as I would like. Life is pretty damn hectic most days, but they are coming up tomorrow for some early birthday celebrations! Cannot wait to see them! :) I love you guys!

OK, I'm gonna go and shut up now. I have to either get up or go back to sleep. The second of those options is incredibly tempting right now!

New Dress

Because I thought it was awesome!

Checked Casual

Checked Casual by Lost Star on Polyvore.com

Obviously I am skipping the bag and the boots as I need neither. Well. Not that I needed the dress, but I do want something pretty to wear in the winter. It is quite thick so a long sleeve top under it and I am good to go. :) Hope it looks OK on with everything, have not actually checked yet. *shrugs*

I'm going to go drink my coco now and then head to bed. Distinctly sleepy seeing as I was at work at 7am today...

Hope everyone had/is having a good day!

Day 6- favorite super hero and why

Now this one is tricky. The first one I remember liking? Princess Leia, who I realise is not a super hero but come on, she kicked butt. Real superhero? Super Women probably. *shrugs* Don't really know why. I liked her clothes though!

(Not my image.)

Tired now, may expand this post in a little while. I brought a kickass dress today so may share that! See, really random blogging I do!

Day 5- a picture of somewhere youve been to

This one is easy!

Just had a holiday to Berlin. This was taken from the Holocaust memorial in Berlin. A fantastic place to visit, very impressive.

In work news, manager has said I can take the 5-9pm shift Tuesday through Friday as someone handed their notice in. They will also consider me for the 7-11ams on the same days which makes for an insanely weird shift pattern. This on top of 8 hours Sundays, so that's 24 hours a week base line. Then I would be looking for overtime too but I can live off of 24 hours a week for a while at least! :D

Fingers crossed this all pans out obviously.

Day 4- a habit that you wish you didn’t have

Erm, self-doubt. Is that a habit?

Just got back from a 4 hour last minute shift. Back tomorrow for a 2-10pm, Wednesday for a 1-5pm, Thursday/Friday off (unless I get called), in 4-8 Saturday, and normal on Sunday. Yes. Working on my birthday. I like the monies though. Gonna talk to the management tomorrow about getting more permanent hours, maybe on the 7-11am delivery shifts, 4x a week? More hours than that would be better though. I dunno, will have to see what they say...

Day 3: a picture of you and your friends

So this is nice and simple for a post work blog. Scored some overtime in the week which is good! :D

Picture of me and my friends. Well, firstly, I don't have that many friends, and nor do I have that many pictures. The most recent and only one I have is this:

This is me with Pip, Kim and Dave at a 70s/80s disco party last month. :)

Apparently I need to take more group shots (this one wasn't even mine!)

Day 2: 30 Days of Blogging

Day 2- The meaning behind you blog name!

I thought I would get this one done early today (like really early, it's 7.40am on a Saturday!) as we move in a couple of hours.

A few minor and unrelated points:

At some point to day I have an attendance review at work when I haven't even been off since the last time I had one. Hoping it is just a paperwork thing... Not sure what time that is though so need to call them later, if they don't call me, which they are meant to! Yikes. Slightly worried about that. Fingers crossed it goes OK.

Also doing laundry right now, making one last use of the amazing washing machine here. Not looking forward to the crappy one that awaits really. I am also going to really miss the awesomely long washing line. *sigh*

Day 341: Laundry
(back when my hair was really short still.)

So, back to the purpose of this post. The meaning behind my blog name!

Well, this is still pretty fresh in my mind as it is only a week or so old. But here goes.

I wanted Stumbling Through Life, which was taken. I wanted fumbling through life, which was taken. I wanted One Step Sideways, which was also taken.

So I had a thought and went with this one instead. Which I actually really like! :D

The meaning behind it. I wanted something that reflected where I was in life. I have literally just finished my MA coursework and am about to start job hunting. I think, before I sort my life out though, I am going to take steps that don't take me forwards. And, actually, I am fine with that. I would just like to 'be' for a while, earn some money and just live a little beyond academic confines.

(Although that said, there is a conference on campus next week that I plan to go to some of in the mornings. Lectures by big names in my field. Plus I have a book to return!)

But yes. In general. I feel this is most reflective of what this blog is going to be about. Going through life in a non-forward moving manner. Or maybe it is forwards by a roundabout, sideways route. I know not. But that is why I am here.

Right. I'm off to go and drink my huge starbucks mug full of tea and then consider getting some breakfast and then cleaning underway. Onwards with the day. Be back tomorrow with news of how the move went. After work that is anyway! :D Oh, and a picture of me with friends. Which I will actually have to hunt out... :s

Day 1: 30 Days of Blogging

Day 1- A recent picture and 15 interesting facts about yourself!

Ah Hoy!

Photo from our recent trip to Berlin and Potsdam. This was taken at Sanssouci in Potsdam.

1. I am sat here struggling to come up with even one interesting thing about me. I guess you could say that I do not think I am that much beyond incredibly ordinary.

Bench Monday: 5th April

2. I suffer really badly with dust allergies. I just packed up to move house and have spent the entire day sneezing and snuffling really badly.

Bench Monday: The 'I can't stop sneezing Edition'

3. I have a thing for eating plain chocolate and ginger biscuits together. Yum.

Custard Cream

4. I adore baking, I just wish that I was better at the decorating.

Ever Yours

5. I am planning on learning to crochet before the end of the year if I can!

6. I've been knitting for almost 4 years but am unable to do anything more impressive than granny squares. I've gotten pretty good at them though. Also, I have been making a blanket for the same 4 years and still have not finished it. The task is on to finally get it done this year! :s

Blanket progress: October 2009

7. I love to read trashing fiction, both published and fan-fiction. There is something about loosing yourself in a story so ridiculous it makes you smile!

Day 87: Ten out of Ten

8. I eat a lot of ketchup! (If you know me, this isn't interesting, just weird!)

Toast and Omlette

9. I have watched the entire 7 seasons of The West Wing over 5 times. (roughly)

Day 127: Yo Yo Ma Rules

10. I have no idea what I want from life anymore. Going with the drift of it all will suit me for a while though I think.

Doodle Schmoodle: Driving Forwards

11. I am looking forward to having the time to read whole books again. Library here I come!

Bench Monday: 15th Feb 2010

12. I am a quite serious neat freak. I like things put in their right places, although I can also be pretty messy at othertimes! As long as it is all put away after it is all good!

Desk Tidy

13. I am quite superstitious sometimes.

Day 132: Lucky Penny

14. I completed a 365 days self-portrait project last year. All days done! This year I am on Week 33 of a 52 Weeks Bench Monday project.

Day 365: Walking Away

15. I love to look at house designs and interiors!

Bay Window

So, that was that. Not all that interesting to be honest with you, but I struggle with things like this! Hope I did OK!

The End. Or the Beginning.

It is done. (Let us hope for good...)

Spent the morning getting it bound and handed in, that done came home and started packing, doodling and cleaning.

More will happen on this blog I swear, just so tired tight now I cannot focus.

Bench Monday: 16th August

So Bench Monday 33 or some such today! Well over the half a year mark now! :D This is however the last bench Monday at this house. We move Saturday.

Keeping everyone updated, I have 2 1/2 days to finish my dissertation. It will be handed in on Thursday even if it makes me crazy. I want it done.

So, back to coffee and editing.

HBM everyone.

Birkenstock 365 Photo Blog

So, when I went to Germany I decided to buy myself a pair of Birkenstocks as the price was marginally less than in the UK. I took quite a lot of photos of me wearing them, as well as doing a bench Monday with them last week. For the last three days my feet have been on the Birkenstock 365 blog from Birkenstock USA. I find this quite amusing, but it has puffed my photo views pretty high (for me.) Go check it out at http://www.birkenstockusa.com/blog/ where there are loads of awesome photos of people in Birkenstocks!

Advert for Birkenstocks!

In unrelated news, I have done very little work today and feel kind of bad about that. Today has been one of those tired days. I feel weary and out of it. Am now just having a quick read through bits of my dissertation but I think it is going to be a pretty early night (work at 7am tomorrow.)

So this was a pretty pointless damn post. I guess most of them will be like this. Except when perhaps I have something to share. Although I guess mostly, I was happy to see my photos used by Birkenstock. :)

Have a great weekend.

Doodle Schmoodle

I have had great fun doodling along with the 30 day challenge over at http://bettysplaceiscool.blogspot.com/ these past few weeks. Have filled a little molskiene up with doodles. I'm not the best at drawing, copying is really as good as I get but this has pushed me to practice daily (asides from my holiday.) I hope there will be other challenges that I can do after this. It has been a great stress reliever from the dissertation. :D

Go check it out and add some doodles to the flickr group!

One Week Today

One week today and I will be free of this:

and this:

At least until I know my final grades...

Then it is onto job hunting and general living of life.

Until then. Have a great week.
